RANDOM LIZ-NESS FOR 05.07.2009

This guy sits right next to our front door and hides the key we leave for the housecleaners, uh, repair people. But don't tell anyone, OK?

Drug of Choice

RANDOM LIZ-NESS FOR 03.10.2009

I can pass on the donuts. I can pass on the Snickers. I can even pass on the Black Pepper Kettle Chips, sometimes. But wave one of these in front of me and I'll collapse in a heap at your feet.

I only buy them maybe once every other week. (OK, more like once a week.) They come two to a pack - can you believe that much goodness can be crammed into one small packet? If I'm feeling strong and virtuous, I'll eat one bittersweet rectangle of the gods on the day of purchase and save the other for the next day. But that doesn't happen very often.

I'm wishing Sbux would catch wind of my completely unsolicited endorsement and shower me with the dark chocolate graham-y love. But, as they say, wish in one hand...

Indispensable Bag

RANDOM LIZ-NESS FOR 12.17.2008

This attractive and function bag is an absolutely indispensable tool for the Liz-on-the-go. It holds all of her shit, including her lunch (lettuce in the zip-top bag) and important paperwork (goldenrod-colored form that was due back at Young Son's school yesterday) as well as about three months worth of paid bill stubs in the capacious back pocket. It's also sturdy enough to hold about $27.00 in loose change, which allows it to double as an effective self-defense weapon as well as an easy way to build upper body strength.

Its hard-wearing black vinyl blends in with just about any decor, including the crap-filled second desk in her office, as shown here surrounded by an ever-handy roll of paper towels for those inevitable spills, a banana about to take root, and a 3.5" floppy disk*.

You may think that a bag this amazing would be out-of-reach of the average shopper, but you'd be oh, so very wrong. This treasure was purchased at the local W*Mart, and for less than $20.00 you can own one, too!

** WTF?!?

Portable Timepiece

RANDOM LIZ-NESS FOR 10.06.2008

I bought this stunning fashion accessory on sale ($6.00!!) at WalMart. The main criteria for its selection was that it had real numbers large enough for even me to read, and a second hand. I rarely use the second hand as my life generally doesn't demand that level of precision, but it comforts me to know it's there.

The little loop that is supposed to hold the tail end of the band fell off, so now the tail kind of sticks out. I've tried tape and a twist tie to secure it but each had drawbacks, so now I just let the tail flop at will. I've priced new watchbands but they cost more than the watch (even at Walmart). Somehow that offends me.

When I grow up

I love Dooce®. I know, I'm late to the party. Heather's already famous (been on the Tee-Vee and everything!) and pretty much lives off the income from her blog now and has an ® after her blog name and everything. Yup, she's pretty much as commercialized as a blogger can be. And boy howdy, do I envy that.

You may be surprised by my fondness for Heather's blog since she definitely does not fit my typical favorite-blog profile. She's not a food blogger or a smart-ass guy in a technical profession. She's quite a bit younger than I, and sometimes it bothers me that I can't get into the music or some of the other things she says she loves*.

But she's smart and funny and edgy and says bad words in her blog. Her photography and design sense -- both of which I am congenitally incapable -- are amazing. I'm a sucker for all of the above. And that's why I love her blog.

As a tribute to Heather, I'm going to blatantly copy-cat and blaspheme the shit out of share my interpretation of her Daily Style. Please prepare for a dose of:

Black Shoes
RANDOM LIZ-NESS FOR 9.28.2008

These are the shoes I wear almost every single day to work, rain or shine. Because I can. I suppose I get partial credit because they're Skechers; at least they aren't Easy Spirit. Or White Stag. They willingly accept my benign neglect and overuse and keep on tickin'. When they finally decompose off my feet I will be very, very sad.

(Don't look too closely -- I haven't shaved recently. And hey, why do my ankles look fat?)

* WTF?!?!
